The Power of Living Water

As the word implies, Anointing (containing the Holy Spirit) Water (a mere liquid) is a combination of two factors. In the days of old, members of a community would anoint a sick one with oil or any item, thereby setting him apart for the Lord’s special attention while they prayed in faith. The use of water is therefore a symbolic action with the driving force being the invisible presence of the Holy Spirit, especially when ministered in faith. This leads to healing, deliverance, blessings and especially salvation in the name of Jesus Christ.

When Jesus willingly accepted to spill his Precious Blood on the Cross of Calvary, He was thus executing the Will of His Father which was to cut us from sin and its penalties.  It therefore has purifying power. The Bible tells us that each time David realized he had sinned, he would speak to God saying: Psalm 51:7 “Cleanse me with the blood of Jesus, and I will be clean, wash me, and I will be whiter than snow”.  King David was, in his supplications, not asking for blessings, miracles, etc. but to be set free from sin and eternal sorrow.
The blood of Jesus is the most powerful tool to overcome satan. In Revelation 12:11, “they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death”. In Ephesians 1:7, it is written: “In Him, we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace….” Furthermore 1 Peter 1: 17-19 says, “If you call on the Father {….} conduct yourselves throughout the time of your sojourning here in fear, {…} knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold {…} but with the precious blood of Christ, as of the lamb without blemish and without spot.”Our right to receive from God as Christ’s followers is based on the blood of Jesus and the fire of the Holy Ghost that make us partakers of His eternal victory.

God created the world by His Word. Genesis 1:3 Then God said, “Let there be light”, and there was light. God is He who He is and He keeps using everything He created as a medium to express His healing, deliverance, blessing and saving power. The Bible says God is the same yesterday, today and forever. As such, whatever object comes into contact with His anointed ones. In Acts 19:11-12, “God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul, so that even handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them.”

These misfortunes in man were or are as a result of sin. When we sin, we need not run away from God but rather move closer to Him because we have not committed the unpardonable sin. The worst of sins can be forgiven and the sinner given another chance. In Romans 3:23, it is written: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Other means of healing and deliverance abound: mud and saliva, a shadow, the pool of Bethesda, salt and a stick, marching and shouting, a slingshot and stones, singing, visions, animals, a dirty river, a staff, voices, sounds and speech, water, etc.

  1. CLAY AND SALIVA (mud and saliva in some scriptures)
When Jesus left the temple one day, he saw a man who had been blind from birth. Neither the man nor his parents had sinned. Jesus then decided to work the works of Him who sent Him while it was day. As such, the Bible says in John 9:6-7 that, “He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay”. After, He said to him: “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam”. Immediately this was done, he regained his sight.
In the days of old and with the increase in Christ following, Peter’s shadow worked miracles, signs and wonders. Those whose faith had been heightened knew that being beside Peter was enough to get ones healing, deliverance, breakthrough, etc. That’s why, the people decided to bring out their sick ones into the streets and lay them there so that the Apostle Peter’s shadow would make them well. In Acts 5:14-16, the Bible is telling:  “…And believers were increasingly added to the Lord, multitudes of both men and women, so that they brought the sick out into the streets and laid them on beds and couches, that at least the shadow of Peter passing by might fall on some of them. Also, a multitude gathered from the surrounding cities to Jerusalem, bringing sick people and those who were tormented by unclean spirits, and they were all healed.” This is a clear indication that God can use broken things to work wonders.
During a Jewish feast in Jerusalem at the Sheep gate, la porte des moutons there was a pool with five colonades porches. In them lay a great multitude of sick people, the blind, the lame boiteux, the paralyzed des gens avec des membres désséchés waiting for the water to be stirred up because, “whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever disease he had.”(John 5:4). The stirring of the water by an angel was indicative of God’s ability to manifest Himself in ways beyond man’s mental faculties. It takes only faith to comprehend all these happenings.
In the book of 2 king chapters 2 and 6 respectively, we learn of two scenarios where Elisha worked miracles with salt and then a stick. At one time, the people of the city were plagued with uncommon diseases due to water pollution. They ran to Elisha who looked up to God and went out to the spring, cast in the salt and said: “Thus says the Lord: ‘I have healed this water, from it there shall be no more death or barrenness’” (2 Kings 2:21-22). Since then, the spring has remained pure.
Besides, the belief and faith in Elisha was enough for him to perform uncommon miracles.  When the people went near the Jordan to cut down trees for want of dwelling space, the ax head of one of them fell into the water. The victim cried out to Elisha who came forth and said, “Where did it fall? He then cut a stick, threw it where the ax had fallen and it began to float. He then asked the man to “pick it up….” The man stretched his hand and got hold of the iron.
When you act on the Almighty’s word, whatever obstacle that stands between you and God’s promises for your life end up falling. When the Israelites were confronted with the walls of Jericho, their obstacle, they began marching round the city. At the seventh instance, its walls gave way to the glory of God after the shouts as instructed by Joshua. In Joshua 6:15-20, the Bible states as follows: “On the seventh day, they got up at daybreak and marched around the city seven times in the same manner, except that on that day they circled the city seven times… When the people gave a loud shout; the wall collapsed; so every man charged straight in, and they took the city”.
It was unthinkable that little and rustic David could be the one to liberate his people from the threats of the Philistines.  Since all things are possible with God, David did not rely on his ability to overpower Goliath as we read in 1 Samuel 17:49-50. Goliath had all the dangerous weapons one could think of but David had five stones. When the latter declared his total dependence on the power of God, he got a stone from his bag and “slung it and stuck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell face dozen on the ground. So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; without a sword in his hand, he struck down the Philistine and killed him.” He depended on God because he had formerly tested the Almighty and had found him worthy of trust, efficient and reliable.
Praise singing, they say, is prying twice. Though chained in prison, Paul and Silas kept praising God in spirit and in truth, fervently holding firm to the belief in Him. Before they knew it, the prison doors opened. The Bible carries that: “By midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly, there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prisons were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chain came loose.” This could only have been the handy work of our Creator who can use uncommon means to prove his might in our midst.
When Abraham was about to slay his only son Isaac, God was pleased with his faith and promised him as many children as stars on the sky as the Scriptures state in Genesis 22:17: “In blessing, I will bless you; in multiplying, I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore, and your descendants shall possess their gates of their enemies,” thereby lifting him up from his near childlessness state.
When Namaan was asked to go to the River Jordan, he was capable of taking other actions as a free moral agent. The Jordan was a dirty river whereas there were many clean rivers he could have visited. Our God is God who oftentimes uses foolish things to confound the wise, just as He uses ignorance to confound the knowledgeable. It is definitely God’s desire to heal, bless and deliver you. Just give Him a chance to prove it. When the man of God advised Namaan on what to do, the latter, “went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times, as the man of God had told him, and his flesh was restored and became clean like that of a young boy.”
  10. A STAFF
Within the framework of the Holy Scriptures, there exit many cases that testify to God’s greatness that can never be countered by any creature.  The case of the Israelites’ departure from Egypt is telling. When the Egyptian forces were after the Israelites as they left for the promise land through an escape route which God had showed them, the Almighty caused His might to be manifested through Moses’ Staff. Faced with the Red Sea, Moses had no option than to respect the instructions of the Lord God who commanded him in Exodus 14:16 as follows “Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground.” Moses simply obeyed this instruction and the Holy Spirit expressed Himself through the staff.
  11. VOICES
Words spoken in harmony with God’s Word, work wonders. As Peter went about spreading the Good News, he came to Joppa where Tabitha (Dorcas when translated), one of Christ’s disciples had died. Informed of the death of the kindhearted lady, the Bible tells us that he got into the house where some believers sat near her corpse and, “…sent them all out of the room; then he got down on his knees and prayed. Turning towards the dead woman, he said: ‘Tabitha, get up.’ She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter, she sat up. …¬Then he called the believers … and presented her to them alive.”(Acts 9:40-41)
At the Beautiful Gate, Peter’s words spoken in faith caused a crippled to walk. In Acts 3:6, one reads: “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” In saying this, Peter’s words was transformed the life of this crippled through the power of the Holy Spirit.
When the day of Pentecost came, all the believers were gathered together in one place and suddenly, “there was a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting….All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.” God was here manifesting His might in a way no one could have imagined.
  13. WATER
No matter what your situation may look like, always remember that God’s desire is to bless His children. We must look up to Jesus and take the faith He is always prepared to give. Your faith should never stand on the wisdom of men but on the power of God through the Holy Spirit. (1 Corinthians 2:4-5). So, in ministering your Anointing Water, give Him thanks and…….
